Whats the best way to remove eyelash extensions?

by on February 9, 2012

For women, eyelashes are an important way of making their beauty stand out and really impress the opposite sex. Eyelashes are flashy and make a statement, that’s why many women around the globe are looking for eyelash extensions and ways to make their lashes bigger and more robust. If you are looking to save money and apply semi permanent eyelashes yourself, you may run into some problematic or embarrassing moments. If they are not applied properly, semi permanent lashes can break and fall off in the middle of an important meeting or worse, in the middle of a date. To avoid a painful experience like that, spend the extra money for a cosmetician to apply your eyelash extensions.

There will come a time when you no longer want your eyelash extensions on because you are tired of them or they are beginning to look shabby. It’s time for the removal process to begin. You can go back to your cosmetician to have your extensions removed, for another fee, or you can remove them yourself. Removing them yourself is actually recommended more than seeing a professional because the removal process is more simple than the application process. All you have to do now is remove them without damaging your natural lashes, which isn’t too difficult if you are gentle and patient.

So how do you go about removing semi permanent eyelashes? That’s a good question to ask, let’s find out.

•    There are eyelash removing solutions on the market, available at all different prices. Your most generic removers won’t cost you too much if you decide to purchase one. Many women prefer removers over the longer removal process that will be described later. Removing solution is applied directly to the glue, to break it down so that the eyelash extensions can be whisked away. Removing extensions with these solutions is quick and relatively simple. The only advice for doing it this way, and for any type of removal, is to dab at your eyelashes and not pull. If you pull on your extensions as you are removing them, you will pull some of your natural lashes out with them. Take a cotton pad or ball and gently dab at your extensions, after you have applied the solution, to make them fall off.

The slower, but free process:

1.    First you will want to gather up a few items from around your house. Obtain a towel, tweezers, olive-oil, make-up remover, magnifying mirror, and cotton pads. These few items will help you in the removal process.

2.    Heat up some water in your sink until it is steaming. You must use steaming-hot water or else the procedure won’t work. Fill the sink with the hot water and wrap the towel around your head to keep your hair from getting wet. Lower your face toward the sink and keep it above the water for approximately five minutes. Allow the steam to hit your face and especially your eyelashes. The steam will crack the glue and allow you to remove your extensions, so the longer you hold your face over the water the better.

3.    Once you are finished with the water, dip your cotton pads in some of the olive-oil and begin to dab at your eyelashes. Also, when you finish applying the olive-oil, you can also apply the make-up remover. This remover will also help get rid of the glue so that you can remove your extensions easier. Adjust your magnifying mirror to where you can see your eyes and eyelashes well and what you are working on.

4.    Gently rub your eyelashes to remove the extensions. Do not, I repeat, do not pull on your eyelashes, unless you just want to pull your natural lashes out.

5.    Use the tweezers to remove any eyelash extensions that remain after rubbing your eyes gently. Again, don’t pull or pluck, but as soft as possible remove remaining eyelashes.

Removing eyelashes on your own works 95% of the time, but for the other 5% of the time, you should probably consult a cosmetician and let them help by removing the eyelashes for you. You don’t want to mess anything up by pulling too hard and removing your own natural lashes.

If you would like more tips on removing extensions there are plenty of forums and websites that offer good help and hints. Figure out what works best for you and do it. It may take a few tries, but be patient with whatever you do.
